I was 17 when Taylor and I connected online through mutual friends. About a month later, I received a message asking if I would be comfortable modeling for her. I agreed to participate but was very hesitant. Aside from the fact that I had never modeled before, I had been battling mental health disorders that impacted my body weight and subsequently my self-confidence. When I arrived for the photo-shoot, Taylor was organized and prepared with an assortment of costume pieces. She spoke with me as though we had been friends for years and it immediately put me at ease. Then she picked up her camera: I think there are certain people in the world who exude positive energy when they are sharing their gift and that was the moment I realized Taylor was one of those people. I began that shoot feeling incredibly depressed and insecure, and I left that shoot feeling like I could move mountains. Seven years later, Taylor and I have worked together through five photo-shoots and I have seen her talents blossom. She is constantly pushing herself out of her comfort zone and in my opinion is one of Kingston’s best photographers. She has an innate talent and ability to make her models feel relaxed. Furthermore, she understands the body and how to direct each model, no matter their shape, size or modeling experience, in a way that will enhance their natural beauty. Thanks to Taylor’s photographs, I have learned to feel good in my own skin.
